Building Panther-Proof Pens in Florida

As more people move into and develop endangered Florida panther habitat, potential conflicts increase.

To help prevent conflicts, Defenders volunteers teamed up with the Mountain Lion Foundation and the local 4-H to build the first panther-proof enclosures in southern Florida to provide a safe haven for pets and small livestock that live in panther country.

The crew built another enclosure at the University of Florida to serve as a model and reminder of the pro-active steps each of us can take to help people and panthers become better neighbors.
