Wolverines: In the Field

In 2000, there had been only two scientific studies conducted in the lower 48 on wolverine. As a result, the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) refuses to list the wolverine as a threatened species because they say there is not enough information.

To back up the rationale for protecting the wolverine and to better understand how to conserve this unusual species, Defenders is working in cooperation with the Forest Service and Glacier National Park to support crucial wolverine research.

By tracking wolverines with radio-collars we are learning about which types of habitat they prefer, what they eat, and where they den and raise young.
