State Conservation Incentive Programs: A Review of Effectiveness for Habitat Conservation
This project was developed to review the different initiatives that states are taking toward conservation through incentive programs, and to assess how these programs contribute specifically to habitat conservation. The goal of the project is to highlight successful and innovative programs at the state-level that policy makers and program coordinators can use to improve and initiate effective habitat incentive programs in other states.
The criteria established to assess the programs were developed with a focus on habitat. Some of the programs evaluated in this project were designed to address other conservation goals such as reforestation or water quality, with habitat as a secondary goal. These programs are included in the reports because they can be used for habitat conservation and/or they serve as a model for a successful incentive program.
