SAFETEA-LU Planning:
Illustrative Examples
Examples of
current practice from metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and state
departments of transportation (DOTs) to illustrate a range of approaches for
addressing several selected planning provisions. Unfortunately, the only
examples they have for integrating conservation and transportation planning are
from areas that were forced to do so because of endangered
species.
GAO Study:
Transportation Planning
State
and metropolitan planning agencies report using varied methods to consider
ecosystem conservation. Of the 36 transportation planning agencies that GAO
contacted, 31 considered ecosystem conservation in transportation planning,
using a variety of methods.
