Defenders in Action: Keeping Bears Out of the Trash in California

A new bear-protection campaign in Lake Tahoe is down in the dumps. Working with the Tahoe Council for Wild Bears and support from the Wendy P. McCaw Foundation, Defenders helped replace commercial dumpsters with 127 bear-resistant garbage containers. The campaign also helped produce and distribute a million paper grocery bags with tips on how to protect people, bears and property. For more information about the campaign, visit Tahoe Wild Bears.
