Defenders in Action: California Marine Birds and Mammals Win protection

The California Department of Fish and Game has permanently closed the California set gillnet fishery -- where vertical nets are used to catch and entrap fish -- in waters of less than 60 fathoms, from Point Reyes in Marin County to Point Arguello in Santa Barbara County. The set gillnet fishery has deadly impacts on sea otters, common murres, harbor porpoises, California sea lions and other marine mammals.
