Wade Willis
Alaska Representative
Areas of Expertise: aerial hunting, Alaska, wildlife management policy, community advocacy, legislative advocacy, user group conflicts regarding wilderness resources, coexisting with carnivores.
Responsible for the Defenders’ program addressing the aerial hunting of wolves and other predator reduction programs that target bears in Alaska. Wade also works with individuals, communities and industries on issues concerning the management of Alaska’s diverse terrestrial wildlife resources. In particular, Defenders’ campaign to address the need for diverse representation on the Alaska Board of Game which governs the management of Alaska’s terrestrial wildlife resources.
Wade has worked as a wildlife biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish & Game and the US Fish & Wildlife Service in Alaska. As a biologist he worked with native subsistence walrus hunters on the remote island of St. Lawrence and conducted base line habitat surveys on the remote Alaska Peninsula. Prior to joining Defenders he owned and operated an ecotourism business for 10 years that offered rafting, sea kayaking and hiking trips to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Prince William Sound, all located in Alaska.
Wade received a B.S. in Zoology from Colorado State University.
