Ryan Richards
Conservation Policy Assistant
Areas of Expertise: State and national surface transportation policy and practice, Integrating conservation and transportation planning
Ryan works on the Habitat and Highways Campaign, which strives to reduce the impact of roads and highways on wildlife and habitat, and advocate for incorporating wildlife conservation into transportation planning. Assisting Habitat and Highways Campaign Director Patricia White, he works with the Federal Highway Administration, state transportation and resource officials, and local nonprofits throughout the country to integrate conservation into transportation planning.
Prior to joining Defenders, Ryan worked on oak woodland restoration projects in Calfornia's Central Valley. He has also worked as a Conservation & Science Intern for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and as an educator for the Sacramento Zoo.
Ryan graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a B.S. in Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology and a minor in Music. He is currently pursuing a MS in Sustainable Development and Conservation Biology and an MPP in Environmental Policy from the University of Maryland.
